Zyanon Paznyak: “Sanctions against Belarusian officials must remain”

The leader of the Conservative Christian Party BPF says no changes are possible in Belarus under Lukashenka’s regime.
The EU foreign ministers will have a meeting in Brussels on November 16–17. It is planned that a process of Belarus–EU dialogue will be considered at the session and a decision on visa sanctions against Belarusian officials will be made. Head of the Conservative Christian Party BPF Zyanon Paznyak told the website euramost.org whether sanctions on the Belarusian regime should be prolonged.
– Mr Zyanon, what is your estimation of the process of Belarus’s integration in Europe?
– Our party and I made a statement on this a month ago. Sanctions against Belarusian officials should remain. Integration with Europe is not possible under this regime. Only changes in Belarus’s domestic policy can lead to integration.
– Do you think real changes in the domestic policy are possible today?
– No changes are possible under this regime. Only changes for the worse are real.
– The presidential elections are around the corner...
– The best variant now is open struggle against the regime. It is also possible to refuse secret vote, which is very difficult in this situation, because certain formal steps must be made. It is possible to boycott the elections. The system of falsification was created. It allows only the head of state to win elections. The 15-year experience of his rule, all elections and referendums prove this. The public do not have any influence and control over elections. Absolutely! I can make the only conclusion: boycott and open struggle against the system. Only public pressure, consolidation and solidarity are able to put the situation into motion.
– Do you believe that any real changes in the Electoral Code will be made as the authorities say?
– There will be no changes. Formal insignificant changes are possible to show Europe something is going on. But there will be no significant changes, because only one man governs here. Hs aim is to preserve his power by all means.
– Mr Zyanon, why has Europe become so loyal towards the Belarusian regime?
– Europe’s policy now is trying this variant. As the first variant of isolation and pressure haven’t brought results, they are trying another way, which is even worse. The only variant able to bring results is the people, Belarusian society itself, Belarusian political elite and inner struggle. This is the only variant in the world that can have effect. Only it will have effect in our country. Europe’s tricks are temporally. The results will be pitiful. It doesn’t meet there must not been any results, such a policy is also possible. But the results will be pitiful and unable to lead to fundamental changes.
