Arrests for dissemination of independent press go on

Detentions of Vitsebsk oppositionist and distributor of independent press have become regular.

As informed by Radio Svaboda, policemen detain Barys Khamajda and place to the police department of Chyhunachny district.

On November 16 Barys Khamajda was detained near the so-called “Blue House”, Lenin Street 28. He comes there every day from Monday to Friday, opens a huge white-red-white umbrella and places newspapers and books for display.

The oppositionist was also detained on November 11 and 14. As said by Khamajda, policemen explained him reasons of detention laconically: “We had been given an order, and we are at service”.

During previous detentions no reports were drawn up against the oppositionist by policemen, however they attentively looked through newspapers and books he sells. Barys Khamajda sells independent press: “Nasha Niva” newspaper, ARCHE magazine and books about the history of Belarus.
