Lyabedzka: “Deputies and president to be appointed as before”

The “chamber of representatives” has started consideration of the draft law on amending the Electoral Code.

The Chairman of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka has stated that the procedure of vote count is kept non-transparent by the authorities, and that means that deputies are to be appointed as before, and not elected”. “The same could be said about the presidential election,” the politician said in an interview to ucpb.org website.

“If the offered changes are analyzed, one should admit that they have a cosmetic or technical character. For instance, a proposal to decrease voters’ turnout and cancel second voting are more convenient for the authorities than for opposition,” “Telegraph” quotes Lyabedzka.

“The offer about declarative principle of holding events under the condition that they are held in the places set by the authorities, looks absolutely meaningless. A possibility to attract additional financing for election campaign is also more advantageous for candidates of the regime in our situation,” the UCP leader said.

“A possibility to nominate their representatives as candidates for deputies no matter whether they have a registered structure or not, is in fact a partial compensation for the denial of registration of party branches at party members’ place of residence,” Lyabedzka said.

“But the most important thing is that all the mentioned amendments in no way influence the results of the vote. One can have a support of an absolute majority of votes, but your place in the council would be occupied by a different person. The practice is that all the official results protocols are made beforehand, and the presented amendments to the electoral law won’t create mechanisms of effective control over the voting and vote count,” the oppositional politician said.
