Mikalai Ulasevich, leader of the public initiative “Astravets nuclear power plant is crime” felt badly after militiamen had visited him at home.

On March 12, his apartment was searched, that made the oppositionist worry. The next day he was taken to hospital because of cardiac arrhythmia.

Mikalai Ulasevich is 57 years old, he is physically disabled, he is unemployed since 2003. He worked as a teacher in the Astravets district, taught Geography, sports, and labour training. After he went to law demanding timely payment, a labour contract with him was withdrawn.

It should be reminded that search of Ulasevich’s apartment was authorized by the district prosecutor on the ground of statement of Shmurei, head of the KGB department in the Astravets district, saying that “literature of unknown character was distributed in Alkhouka village of the Astravets district on March 4”.

On March 12, apartment of Ivan Kruk, another member of the public initiative “Astravets nuclear power plant is crime”, was searched, too. Three militiamen and witnesses with a search sanction, issued by the district prosecutor, came to him.

The searches were related to independent newspaper “Ostrovetski Vestnik”, criticising construction of a nuclear power plant in the Astravets district.
