A “European Belarus” activist was sentenced to arrest for an action against constructing a nuclear power plant.

The Court of the Lida district (the Hrodna area) sentenced Yauhen Skrabets, activist of the civil campaign “European Belarus” to one day of administrative arrest on April 26.

Yauhen Skrabets and two local opposition activists Hanna Bunko and Yauhen Rudy were detained in Lida on April 25. They were holding an action against constructing a Belarusian nuclear power plant. Activists in flu masks were walking round the town holding a banner “No to New Chernobyl!” and spreading leaflets with information danger of constructing a nuclear power plant.

The detained activists were guarded to the Lida militia department where reports under the article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences (violation of the established order of mass events) were drawn up against them. H. Bunko and Y. Rudy were set free, but Y. Skrabets was guarded to the detention center. He was guarded to court on April 26 and guarded back in the detention facility after the trial. In the evening, when 24 hours since his detention have passed, the activist was released.

The court hasn’t considered administrative cases of H. Bunko and Y. Rudy yet.
