Lukashenka’s Belarus takes bottom positions in world ratings

The Legatum Institute has published its annual 2008 Legatum Prosperity Index for 104 countries of the world.

This rating is based on 44 indicators including wealth, economic growth, personal wellbeing, and quality of life. However, the two most important factors are economic competitiveness and comparative liveability.

Australia has been named the most flourishing country of the world. It goes 6th in the first category and 10th in the second category. The second and third places are shared by Austria (9th and 8th positions) and Finland (12th and 5th positions).

The top ten includes Germany, Singapore and the US, that share 4-6 positions, Switzerland (7th), Hong Kong (8th), Denmark and New Zealand (9-10th). Israel takes the 19th position on the factors taken together: it takes the 8th place according its economic competitiveness, and 21st in comparative liveability.

Ukraine comes 68th out of 104 countries in 2008, the Legatum Prosperity Index shows.

The best result among the CIS countries belongs to Kazakhstan – the 56th position. Russia is 57th, Ukraine is 68th, Belarus – 78th, Uzbekistan – 80 and Moldova takes the 83rd position.

The first place among the countries with the most competitive economy belongs to Singapore, and Norway is the country with the best quality of live.

The last positions of the rating are occupied by Mali, Zambia and Yemen.
