The meeting of the rulers in Minsk was marked by signing military contracts and bombastic statements about friendship in the area of energy.
The intergovernmental agreement between Belarus and Turkmenistan on military and military-technical cooperation was signed in Minsk on January 25 further to the negotiations held as a part of the official visit of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Minsk, Interfax informs.
It is known that the sides have also signed an agreement on trade and economic cooperation in the sphere of deliveries of Belarusian agricultural equipment, automotive vehicles and public transport. Besides, during the visit a framework agreement between Belgirkhimprom open joint-stock company and the state concern Turkmenkhimia on supplementary exploration and development of potassium salt field in Lebap Province of Turkmenistan was signed.
Besides, during the meeting with the President of Turkmenistan Alyaksandr Lukashenka touched upon the issue of energy problems solving.
The Belarusian leader stated that relations in the global energy space should be built considering interests of all its participants.
“Here in Belarus we are proceeding from the fact that relations at the global energy space should be built considering interests of all its participants – exporters, importers, transiters. Long-term interests of partners should be respected here. A hunt for here-and-now profit can ruin all the previous diligent work on development of relations of trust,” Lukashenka said.
He noted that he notices coinciding of views of Belarus and Turkmenistan in solving energy problems.
“I know that my counterpart, President of Turkmenistan, has absolutely the same point of view,” the Belarusian leader said. Lukashenka added that “our approaches are mostly the same”.
“It creates a foundation for close and positive interaction, both in bilateral format and in the framework of international forums,” Lukashenka said.
As a positive example of bilateral cooperation, Lukashenka named realization of the contract under which 1500 Belarusian tractors were delivered to Turkmenistan. “Belarus is ready to offer new schemes of realization of complex engineering goods to Turkmenistan,” he said.
In his turn, the Turkmen leader stated that the visit of the delegation headed by him to Minsk is held amid noticeable revitalization of bilateral relations.
“We are interested in buying Belarusian technologies in chemical industry, agriculture, food industry, we are ready to continue cooperation in the spheres of machine-building, transport, communications, pharmaceutics,” Berdimuhamedov said.
Turkmenistan has opportunities to cooperate in the spheres of fuel and energy, can increase deliveries of the light industry. Berdimuhamedov said that “we cannot be satisfied with volumes of trade turnover and investment activities level”.
We remind that a scandal sparkled between Russia and Belarus caused by Russian oil duties. Lukasheka’s visit to Turkmenistan, by te way, took place in the moment of the gas conflict with Russia. Then experts told that the rulers could discuss possible gas deliveries to Belarus. However, experts believe, such a project is unviable as issues of transit of gas through Russia are not agreed, and gas would arrive to Belarus at high costs, and probably even higher than Russian gas.
