A joint sitting of the Minsk region executive committee and regional council was held today in Minsk. The regional electoral commission was formed at the sitting.

It consists of 13 people, including six representatives of political parties and NGOs (representatives of regional intuitions, Belaya Rus organization, BRSM, Belarusian Union of Women, Belarusian Union of Afghan War Veterans, Communist Party of Belarus, Liberal Democratic Party).

Syarhei Salash, a democratic activist from Barysau, leader of the local BPF branch took part in the sitting. He represented interests of citizens, who had proposed candidature of human rights Aleh Matskevich to the regional electoral commission.

As the campaign “Human Rights Activists for Free Elections” reports, Salash received a telephone call from Yulia Askerka, the first deputy head of the personnel department at the Minsk region executive committee, and invited him to attend the sitting. Unfortunately, the call was the only sign of “liberalization”.

According to Syarhei Salash, no representatives of the democratic opposition, including Aleh Matskevich, were included in the regional electoral commission.
