On November 5 a solemn event is to take place in Geneva in the Palace of Nations. It is to be dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances.
The founder of “We Remember” civil initiative Iryna Krasouskaya, whose husband, a businessman and a pubic person Anatoly Krasouski, was abducted in Belarus in 1999, has been invited to participate.
The UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances was created in 1980 on the initiative of the UN General Assembly, and it was the first thematic mechanism in the framework of the UN Program on Human Rights, created for studying the cases of human rights violations worldwide which are especially serious by their nature. Before that working groups and special reporters were appointed only for examining the situation with human rights in some countries and territories.
The main goal of the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances is to help the families of the disappeared persons in finding out the fate and whereabouts of their loved ones.
