According to the international organisation, the UN does not pay due attention to human rights violations in our country.
As stated by the NGO UN Watch, over the period of 2008-2009 the UN Human Rights Council hasn’t taken any measures addressing human rights violations in 16 countries of the world. Among these countries which are classified as greatest violators of human rights in the annual reports of the human rights organisation Freedom House, are Cuba, China, Eritrea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan, Zimbabwe and Belarus, Radio Svaboda informs.
According to UN Watch, in Belarus the UN was to react to repressions against political opponents, censorship in mass media, restriction of freedom of assembly and “systematic use of torture”. UN Watch also attracts attention to the repressive law on mass media which came into force in 2008.
UN Watch is a Geneva-based NGO. It is s affiliated with the American Jewish Committee. According to the website of UN Watch, it is engaged in monitoring of the performance of the United Nations by the yardstick of its own Charter.
