Chairman of city council of Belarusian Popular Front party detained in Pinsk

The chairman of Pinsk city council of the Belarusian Popular Front Ales Ramanovich was detained by a policeman who was interested by his participation in local elections.

Alyaksandr Ramanovich who runs as a candidate of the BPF party to the city council of deputies in Aeraflot constituency number 16 of Pinsk, was detained after he took reports of the session of the regional council of the BPF passed by a minbus on March 5 in the evening. At the session of the regional council of the party two persons were nominated to constituency commissions in the constituency where Alyaksandr Ramanovich is to be a candidate, “Human rights activists for free elections” inform.

In a few minutes after Alyaksandr Ramanovich went away from the minibus, two policemen came near him and explained that 4 thefts had been committed on that day, and he looks suspiciously. The activist didn’t have a passport with him, so patrol policemen Mirashnichenka and Karpovich decided to take him to a police department for identification. Duirng the search policemen decided to seize records of the BPF council’s session. Alyaksandr Ramanovich explained that those were official documents, which he would allow to look at only in his hands. After that policemen took the activist to Litsejny department at the railway station, and in half an hour he was taken to the city police department.

Te activist wanted to call to the chairman of the Council of the regional branch of the party Zmitser Shymanski from the police car, but policemen seized his mobile phone by force. After half an hour of waiting a policeman on duty S. Bratchyk called up the detained to his office for identification. He also asked the records to read. The activist explained that he plans to bring these documents to the city council next day, and there is no secret information in them. Police major wrote down what kind of records it was and who was nominated, and ordered another officer to return the seized mobile phone. At 10:10 p.m. the activist was released.

Alyaksandr Ramanovich connects his detention with his public activities, and namely with his intention to run as a candidate for deputy.
