Brest branch of UCP denied participating in “elections”

Forming of precinct election commissions has demonstrated that the authorities have failed in the test for honesty, democratic character and transparency of elections.

As BelaPAN was informed by the chairman of the branch Mikalai Koush, the Brest branch of the United Civil Party won’t take part in the local elections. Such a decision has been adopted at the working session of the council of the regional and Brest city branches of the UCP on March 11 in the evening.

As said by Koush, the council had been requested to consider this issue by the party convention held on February 28 in case representatives of the party won’t be on the precinct election commissions.

“Out of 7 activists nominated by us to such commissions, only 2 have become members of the commissions in Brest. Notably, those who have the longest experience of participation in election campaigns have been not enrolled,” Koush said. “At yesterday’s session of the council we arrived to one opinion: not to participate in the election, at the same time giving each member of our organisation, potential candidates, to decide independently”.

As noted by the politician, the UCP planned to “fight for 14 seats”.

“The process of forming precinct election commissions has demonstrated that the regime has failed in the test for honesty, democratic character and transparency of elections,” the politician stated. “In particular, I mean truthfulness of the statements about forming all levels of commissions proceeding from principles of professionalism and experience of concrete persons in their participation in the elections”.
