Failure again: Belarusian hockey players eliminated from world’s championship

The Belarus ice hockey national team lost all chances of advancing to the quarterfinal of the 74th worked championship in Germany.

On May 16, Eduard Zankavets team gained an 2-1 overtime victory over Germany (1-0, 0-0, 0-1, 1-0) in the second match of the second game of the qualification round. However, only a regulation time victory was needed to advance to the playoff stage, BelaPAN reports.

Goals were scored by Andrei Mikhalou (6:43, assistants Yaroslav Chupris, Yevgeni Kovyrshyn), Marcel Muller (59:06, assistants Sven Felski, Felix Schitz, 6х5), Aliaksei Kaliuzhny (64:45, assistantsb Mikhail Grabovski, Alexander Makritski).

Penalty statistics: 2 – 8 (Andrei Stas, 21:32; Korbinian Holzer 4:11, Nicolai Goc 16:51, John Tripp 19:33).

Russia thumped Denmark 6-1 (2-0, 1-1, 3-0) in Group E.

The standings in Group E is as follows: Russia 12 points (4 games, 15-5), Finland 6 points (3: 4-4), Denmark 6 points (4; 12-10), Germany 4 points (4; 6-7), Slovakia 3 points (3: 5-11), Belarus 2 points (4; 5-10).

In Group F, Latvia beat Norway 5-0 (0-0, 0-0, 5-0), Sweden gain a victory over Canada 3-1 (1-1, 2-0, 0-1). The standings are Sweden 9 points (4; 13-7), Switzerland 9 points (3; 10-4), Canada 6 points (4; 20-9), Latvia 3 points (4; 99-13), the Czech Republic 3 points (3; 607), Norway 3 points (4; 6-24).

On May 17, Belarus will play its last match at the worlds against Denmark (the beginning at 9:15 p.m.).
