The Kyrgyz Prosecutor General’s Office has made an official request to Belarus for extradition of Kurmanbek Bakiyev.
On May 5 Alyaksandr Lukashenka stated that he won't extradite Bakiyev to the new authorities of Kyrgyzstan. As said by him, "extradition requests would be useless and humiliating" for the interim government of the country.
"The Kyrgyz president is under protection of the Belarusian state and the president," Lukashenka stated.
Earlier Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister for the judicial system of the interim government Azimbek Beknazarov stated that Belarus does not have a right to violate Minsk agreement on extradition of criminals. The Decree on K. Bakiyev's extradition to Kyrgyzstan was adopted on April 27 and signed by the head of the government Roza Otunbaeva.
It should be noted that arrests of high-level officials of the previous regime are continued. The day before the head of the presidential secretariat Oxana Malevannaya was detained. She was charged with abuse of power.
For today the new authorities search the three brothers of the president: Zhanybek, Akhmatbek and Kanybek, as well as the son of the former president, Maxim Bakiyev. Beside the relatives, former officials and entourage of the Bakiyevs are on wanted list. In particular, Daniyar Usenov (ex-Prime MInister), Igor Chudinov (ex-Prime Minister), Saparbek Balkibekov (a former head of the Industry, Energy and Fuel Resources Ministry), Kurmanbek Temirbayev (former head of the Administrative Department of the President), Akimzhan Mujbillayev (a former chairman of the Finance Police Service), Alexey Eliseev (a former head of the Development Fund of Kyrgyzstan), as well as Alexey Shirshov, who is considered to be a "grey eminence", and a high-ranking officer of the Interior Affairs Ministry of the country Nurlan Temirbayev.
