Polish MFA: Situation with national minorities in Belarus is problem for the whole EU

The level of democracy of each Eastern Partnership participant is estimated separately, the polish MFA thinks.
Jan Borkowski, the foreign deputy minister, told this in an interview to REGNUM information agency on July 13 commenting on the obvious difference in Europe’s estimation of Caucasian countries and Belarus.
According to him, the EU analyzes the level and progress of democratization of each programme’s participant. “Belarus lies very close to Europe to make us believe it can stay at the level where the faraway countries are,” Borkowski said. “Every country is evaluated in an individual way.” Besides, it is important that words must be seconded with deeds. Belarus declares its will for cooperation, declares its intention to reach democratic standards,” he said.
As Borkowski noted, Poland regards the situation with ethnic minority in Belarus as a problem. “The problem of minority is a problem for the whole EU. This is a litmus test,” he said.
