Will “Lenin Square” metro station be not renamed into “Independence Square”?

The renaming of the metro station “Lenin Square” into “Independence Square” will be considered for the umpteenth time by the Minsk City Executive Committee in September.
This was reported by the Head of the Division of Cultural and Educational work of the Culture Department of the Minsk City Executive Committee Volha Lukashuk.
As it was reported earlier, on March, 15 the Commission on naming and renaming of streets of the Minsk city Executive Committee resolved on renaming a number of the capital arteries. “Lenin Square” metro station should have received the name “Independence Square” that it was already bearing from 1992 till 2003.
According to Volha Lukashuk, numerous opinions of Minskers - positive, as well as negative were received.
“The issue with renaming of “Lenin Square” is ambiguous. Veterans' organizations are against. That is why the Commission on naming and renaming of streets at Minsk city Executive Committee will return to the consideration of this issue in September”, - the official noted.
Though, one of the members of the Capital Commission on renaming who asked not to tell his name, confided to TUT.by, that he has no doubts in the positive solution of this issue: “It is a very difficult and conflict situation”, - the expert said.
