Year after tragedy: results of investigation not published in Belarus (Photo, video)

In remembrance of Baranavichy pilots Alyaksandr Marfitsky and Alyaksandr Zhuraulevich a monument would be opened in Rusina cemetery.

As “Intex-press” newspaper was told by the commander of the 61st fighter air base, Colonel Yury Varabyou, memorial celebrations are to take place on August 28: a service in the church of the Protecting veil of the Holy Mother of God is to start at 9 a.m.; at 11 a.m. monuments will be unveiled in the cemetery of Rusina where the pilots are buried. At twelve noon, a cross in the place where construction of the chapel is planned would be consecrated. Everyone will be able to pay tribute to the memory of the pilots, and entry to the military base would be by invitation only.

Baranavichy pilots Alyaksandr Marfitski (deputy commander of the operational-tactical unit of the Air Force and Air Defence Force of Belarus) and Colonel Alyaksandr Zhuraulevich (deputy commander of the 61st fighter base) died on August 30, 2009 when they performing a stunt show in the city of Radom, Poland. They took the plane away from the inhabited area at the expense of their lives.

They were awarded “For Personal courage” order posthumously. A monument was erected at the site of the disaster. The results of the investigation have not been published.
