Pro-rector of Homel university Syarhei Khanenya won’t be given 95 million 500 thousand rubles from “Naronaya Volya”.

It is hard to say what guided Homel state university pro-rector Syarhei Khanenya when he filed a complained to the court of Leninski dictrict of Minsk. He asked to collect from the editorial office of “Narodnaya Volya” nothing less than… 95 million 500 thousand rubles. Though the newspaper got everything straightened out, by saying to readers that in the article where S. Khanenya was mentioned, not his annual earnings, but his annual revenue was meant.

In order to confirm that the editorialoffice was ready to make this information available to every potential voter (he ran as a candidate for deputy of the city council), S. Khanenya was offered to include “NV” journalists in his election team. He refused, and also found apologies of the newspaper at its pages insufficient.

The first instance court delivered a decision to dismiss the claims of Khanenya to “Naridnaya Volya” fully. He did not agree with the verdict: in his cassational appeal he asked Minsk city court to overturn the ruling of the court of Leninski district of Minsk totally and send the case for a new trial

This time the court issued a decision: the inaccuracy which appeared in the newspaper’s article accidentally, and which was quickly corrected, does not damage honour and dignity. The decision of the district court was upheld. So S. Khanenya won’t get 95 million 500 thousand rubles from “Narodnaya Volya”.
