We Remember initiative held a street action in Amsterdam timed to the International Day of the Disappeared.
The International Day of the Disappeared is marked around the world on August 30. We remember initiative organized a picket in memory of involuntary disappeared Yury Zakharnaka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasouski and Zmitser Zavadski in the Dutch capital Amsterdam. The action was held in Amsterdam central square Leidseplein from 5 pm to 6 pm local time. Participants of the action were holding portraits of the missing people. Dutch musicians came to support the picket and performed a few songs. The peaceful picket attracted genuine interest of passers-by. People talked to the participants, asked them questions and expressed their sympathy.
Involuntary disappearance is a flagrant violation of human rights affected dozens of thousands of people and their families. The United Nations General Assembly adopted the International Convention for Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearances on December 20, 2006, to prevent enforced disappearances.
