Dzmitry Drozd: Time of changes has come!

Dzmitry Drozd, a former political prisoner, has made a statement at the People’s Assembly on October 8 in Minsk.

“Today the entire Belarusian nation, even security officials and bureaucrats understand that the time of changes has come. His time is over. Belarus needs a legal president! We need a new election.

December 19 was a no return point for the regime. Lukashenka understood that he was losing that election. Other candidates’ campaigns were held strikingly and successfully. I worked in a team of Andrei Sannikov myself, and saw how he turned into a real national leader over a short period of time. And in case of fair election Lukashenka had not remotest chance.

Lukashenka took revenge against Sannikov by sending him into prison for 5 years personally. Lukashenka is taking revenge against him even now, when he is in prison, as even on a plank bed Sannikov remains a real threat for the regime. He is thrown to different prisons, provocations are staged, there are attempts to crush him morally, he is threatened by a murder. Mikalai Statkevich, a courageous person, an officer, who had issued a challenge to the regime, is in an equally dangerous situation. Pressure is exerted on Zmitser Dashkevich, as he is one of the most vivid persons in the youth movement. And the youth is the bravest part of the population. That is why they need to smash them as well.

Today our state cannot return into the legal framework any more, they have gone too far. The only possibility for Belarus to become a civilized European state is a new election. A fair, transparent and just election, with a transparent vote count. Only that could save the country from the total lawlessness.

Lukashenka’s name cannot stand on the ballot paper any more naturally. And the names of those who are languishing in prisons now, must be there. And only when the nation will have its say finally, we shall start returning back to a normal life.

Andrei Sannikov does not know that we are talking about him at the People’s Assembly. Mikalai Statkevich is unaware about that either. But if we shout all together, our voices may reach the prisons where the presidential candidates are held: “Hold on, guys! We are together! We shall win!” Dzmitry Drozd stated.
