  • 13.10.2011, 10:58

Belarus may open a plant to repair military helicopters in Nigeria, local newspaper Daily Trust reports.

The paper says that Gen. Major Syarhei Barysyonak, the director general of the state-owned foreign trade enterprise Belspetsvneshtehnika, met with permanent secretary of the Nigerian Ministry of Defence Linus Awute in Abuja last week.

Barysyonak said he would recommend his country government to establish an industry for the repairs of combat helicopters, and open a centre for refurbishment of military hardware, the paper runs. He also noted that a Belarusian embassy in Abuja is expected to open in 2012. The Belarusian company has carried out contracts worth $20 million in Nigeria, Daily Trust says.

Belspetsvneshtehnika does not confirm BelaPAN news agency the fact of Barysyonak’s visit to Nigeria.
