Belarusian MFA calls Sikorski “biased reporter”

Minsk is surprised at Polish Foreign Minister’s knowledge of geography.

An official representative of the Belarusian MFA, spokesman Andrei Savinykh, said commenting on the statement of Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski’s statement at a conference in Warsaw on February 2: “There is nothing to comment on here. It is not a speech of a diplomat, much less of a foreign minister. It is a speech of a biased reporter.”

The spokesman of the Belarusian MFA expressed his personal opinion on the situation: “Sikorski showed his remarkable knowledge of geography comparing the distance between Minsk and other European capitals.”

In particular, the Polish minister said at the Warsaw conference: “Minsk is closer to Warsaw, Vilnius and Budapest than to Brussels. Minsk is closer to Berlin than to Rome. Minsk is closer to Brussels than to Lisbon and Helsinki.”

The head of the Polish MFA noted Europe had been lenient towards Belarus for too long. According to him, belonging to the European family, which is not argued in Europe, also means certain responsibility taken by Minsk.
