Lyabedzka’s case is still “under investigation”

Investigation of the criminal case against the leader of the United Civil Party leader Anatol Lyabedzka has been extended.

As said by Lyabedzka, on May 20 he was to receive the decision of the investigators either about prolongation of the criminal investigation terms, or on dismissal of the case. “Today is May 30. I have not received any written notices, any documents,” the politician said to BelaPAN.

Lyabedzka has learnt about prolongation of the term of criminal investigation against him from his lawyer. “She had been told that the investigation had been extended. But I repeat, that I have not received any official documents from the prosecutor’s office about that,” the leader of the UCP said. He has also stated that he has no idea about the term for which the investigation had been prolonged.

Anatol Lyabedzka, the electioneering agent of the presidential candidate from the UCP in the presidential election, Yaraslau Ramanchuk, is involved in the criminal case related to the so-called “mass riots” in Minsk on December 19, 2010. He was detained in the capital on December 20 overnight in hi sown flat and taken to the KGB prison. The politician was charged with committing a crime under Article 293 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (mass riots). This article carries a punishment of from 5 to 15 years.

On April 6 Lyabedzka was released on recognizance.
