Georgia’s president continues to play the role of the Belarusian dictator’s advocate.
A policy of isolation towards Belarus would be counterproductive for Europe’s development, stated Mikheil Saakashvili, the president of Georgia, on Tuesday at the press-conference held together with Polish president Bronislaw Komorowski.
“Pursuing the policy of isolation towards Belarus, as it happens sometimes, directly increases the chance that the sovereignty of Belarus will really come to an end, and it will fall under control of the present government of Russia completely, which is counterproductive for the long-term development of Europe,” Saakashvili stated, “News-Georgia” reports.
As said by him, Georgia is attentively following the situation in Belarus,
“We understand perfectly well which problems exist in Belarus,” Saakashvili stated, stressing that statements that Russia is more democratic than Belarus are absurd.
“Belarus, unlike Russia, does not occupy its neighbours,” said the president of Georgia.
“As never before we need to conduct a dialogue and openly discuss all those issues which cause not only our interest, but resentment,” Saakashvili stated.
An analogous statement was made by Saakashvili last week at a conference “A European Path of Georgia”. He stated that Europe and the international community in general should carry out an active dialogue with Belarus so that the country would not become isolated and fall into the hands of Russia.
“A dialogue with Belarus is indispensible… and if it would find itself in isolation, it would mean that it would fall into the hands of the Russian administration,” he stated.
