South Ossetia aims for maximum integration with Russia, the president of the unrecognized republic, Eduard Kokoity, said.

“The people of South Ossetia are historically oriented towards Russia and will never forget Moscow's historic decision on recognition of South Ossetia in August 2008,” Kokoity told Interfax news agency Tuesday.

“Taking into account the past experience and the current conditions, South Ossetia aims for the maximum integration with Russia. The people of our republic has repeatedly spoken for tightest relations with Moscow,” the president of South Ossetia noted.

“I think South Ossetia can join the union state of Russia and Belarus after Belarus recognizes our independence,” Kokoity said.
