The Belarusian General Prosecutor's Office maintains correspondence with the authorized bodies of Poland on a variety of issues on legal assistance.
Aleh Hklyshchanka, the chief of the international law department at the General Prosecutor's Office, told this ONT television.
“In particular, we have requests from Poland. We also have sent our requests to Poland to extradite certain persons,” the representative the General Prosecutor's Office said.
“As for Lithuania and Poland, cooperation between the Belarusian General Prosecutor's Office and appropriate state bodies of these countries goes on,” Aleh Khlyshchanka noted.
The latest request for legal assistance from Lithuania was received by the General Prosecutor's Office on August 24. “The request is executed in due order. We will sent the fulfilled request back to the Lithuanian party,” he stressed.
Belarus signed a number of international agreements on legal assistance in civil and criminal cases. The country renders intensive legal assistance. The General Prosecutor's Office has received 159 requests asking for legal aid in different cases: deliberate murders, drugs-related issues, human trafficking, illegal business activity. The general condition for terminating international agreements is that the party going to terminate or stop effect of an agreement, should notify the other party about its intention, BelTA reports.
“Crime exists not only in our country, but in other countries, too. Crimes make damage not only to states: ordinary people suffer too. They must be sure that the law enforcement bodies will take their best measures to solve the crime and punish the persons guilty. If international aid is needed here, this aid must be rendered,” Aleh Hklyshchanka said.
“In my view, it would not be correct to speak about terminating effect of international agreements in this situation. On the contrary, we must strengthen and improve this cooperation,” he added.
