On August 9 2011 the Republic of Belarus signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the United Nations and the Government of the Republic of Belarus on supporting the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.
The memorandum will give impetus to further cooperation between Belarus and the UN in the field of peace efforts.
The document was signed by Deputy Secretary General of the UN Susana Malcorra and Deputy State Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus Stanislav Zas.
The memorandum secures the international legal status of the Belarusian soldiers sent to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), as well as administrative, logistical and financial provisions governing the use of personnel, equipment and services provided by Belarus.
In accordance with the Presidential Decree 400 of August 2 2010, three citizens of Belarus currently serve in the UNIFIL — a staff officer of peacekeeping force and two doctors of a mission hospital in Naqoura.
