Senior high school students in Babrujsk forced to join BRYU

  • 13.09.2011, 15:16

The new academic year has scarcely started, and children complain to their parents that they are made join the Belarusian Republican Youth Union.

It is informed by “Babrujski kur’er” newspaper.

Viktar, a father of a senior high school student from a school in Babrujsk, said:

“Compulsion is used by the school facilitator. Those who are still undecided, such words are used as a deterrent: “You need that in order to have no problems with admission to universities in the future, and to have good certificates of secondary education…” However, not all senior high school students listened to the “appeals” to join the organization. Some of them tried to raise objections, saying they do not know the BRYU statute and that they do not deserve to be members of such an honorable organization… Now persons who refused, fear that the school administration and teachers would have prepossession against them. Meanwhile, even in Soviet time young people were not forced to join the Young Communist League. It was considered that only worthy people should be its members, and members could be expelled in case of some wrongdoings… And now the main thing is positive statistics and progress reports…
