Vasilevich removed from post of prosecutor general

Lukashenka has appointed Alyaksandr Kanyuk as a new Belarusian prosecutor general.
Alyaksandr Kanyuk was a deputy chairman of the Supreme Court, the press service of the Belarusian head of state informs.
There’s no information about future of Ryhor Vasilevich, who had worked as a prosecutor general for many years.
Alyaksandr Kanyuk was born in Hrodna in 1960. He graduated from the Belarusian State University with a degree in law in 1982.
He was a commander of a motorized rifle platoon of the 3rd guards armored regiment of the 3rd guards armored division of the 7th tank army of the Belarusian military region in 1982-1984. He occupied different posts in military tribunals since 1984.
He was a judge of the Belarusian Military Court in 1993-1997 and was appointed chairman of the Minsk Inter-garrison military court in 1997. He worked as a judge and the chairman of the Belarusian Military Court in 2006-2009.
He was a judge and deputy chairman of the Supreme Court since April 2009 until appointment as the prosecutor general on September 20, 2011.
