Former political prisoners Fyodar Mirzayanau and Illya Vasilevich told journalists on September 22 that they were not going to stay in Belarus, but planned to study abroad.
Fyodar Mirzayanau explains that he does not plan to stay in Belarus, because the people who arrested and threw him into prison still occupy their posts and will not probably be punished. He thinks he is still in danger of getting arrested, Radio Svaboda reports.
Illya Vasilyeu says he is deeply insulted with violation of law and human rights in Belarus. “I do not feel free and safe in these conditions. A case can be fabricated against any person at any moment. Anyone can be thrown into prison. There are a lot of such people in penal colonies,” Vasilevich said. That was the reason why he does not want to stay in Belarus, he added.
Vasilevich and Mirzayanau said they would return to Belarus after the change of the political regime.
