EU wants full rehabilitation of all political prisoners

The European Union considers the release of certain persons convicted in the December 19 criminal case as a positive step, but expects full rehabilitation of all political prisoners.
Interfax-Zapad news agency learnt this on Wednesday from Ambassador of Poland to Belarus Leszek Szerepka.
“We view the release as a positive step. But we expect the release and political rehabilitation of all [political prisoners],” the diplomat emphasized.
The ambassador explained that political rehabilitation would allow the freed people to take active part in the country’s political life. “There are different bans for the persons with previous convictions, for example, running in elections,” he added.
We remind that Lukashenka had already “pardoned” 13 persons sentenced for the events in Minsk on December 19, 2010.
