The chairman of the pro-governmental Union of Poles refuses to talk to journalists.

The deputy chairman, Mechyslau Lysy, explained Syamashka applied for resignation for family reasons. Moreover, Stanislau Syamashka wants to devote more time to his business and finds it difficult to occupy two positions, Radio Svaboda reports.

Syamashka applied for resignation at a sitting of the Main Council of the Union of Poles last Friday. His resignation is expected to be considered at a regular council meeting tomorrow.

Mechyskau Lysy says under the union’s charter, one of deputy chairmen will perform the duties of the Union of Poles head until the union’s congress. There are two deputy chairmen – Mechislau Lysy and Viktar Bohdan.

This question will be solved at a meeting of the Main Council on January 14, Saturday. According to Lysy, the Main Council will also appoint the date of the congress of the Union of Poles. Lysy does not rule out a congress may be extraordinary.

Belarus has two Unions of Poles since 2005. The Belarusian authorities did not recognize legal the congress, where Andzelika Borys was elected the union head and organized another congress, where Yuzef Luchnik was elected the union chairman. The second congress was not recognized by the Polish authorities. Andzelika Orechwo inherited the post from Andzelika Borys and Stanislau Syamashka - from Luchnik.
