Brest democrats will boycott “election”

  • 30.01.2012, 10:08

Brest Democratic Coalition (BDC) “Spadchyna” (“Legacy”) has adopted a decision to totally boycott the so-called “parliamentary election” scheduled by the regime on 2012.

The Coalition ground its decision upon the following facts:

- The presidential election of December 19, 2020 has not been recognized by the overwhelming majority of the Belarusian nation and the world community, so there is no legitimate power in the country.

- One person, Lukashenka A., is exercising legislative, executive and judicial power, and hence “the parliament” is not a legislative and representative body of Belarus, and its existence has fictitious nature.

- Political prisoners are kept in prisons, their lives are under threat.

- Political parties and organizations are denied registration (the Belarusian Christian Democracy, “Vyasna” and others).

- There is no access to mass media for the parties and organizations which offer alternative viewpoints.

- The current electoral legislation does not guarantee freedom, transparency and openness of election.

Proceeding from these facts, we state that under the current regime a democratic election is impossible in Belarus.

We find participation of some leaders and members of political parties in this farce a provocation. Under present conditions it looks immoral and indecent.

We urge citizens of Belarus not to take part in another farce called “parliamentary election”, and to join us in an active boycott.

The agreement has been signed by:

Zmitser Shurkhaj, Belarusian Christian Democracy

Alyaksandr Charkashyn, Belarusian Christian Democracy

Vasil Vauranyuk, Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada)

Stanislau Fyadzko, Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada)

Viktar Chajkouski, “Perspektyva” public association

Fiodar Pyatrusevich, “European Belarus”

Palina Sharenda-Panasyuk, “European Belarus”

Yury Batsuk, “Young Belarus”
