The Secretary General of the the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) criticized western sanctions against the Lukashenka regime.
“We see persistent attempts by certain countries or groups of countries, including involvement of international institutions and new information tools, to interfere with domestic affairs of the organization members states,” RIA Novosti quotes Bordyuzha. According to him, western countries impose domestic and foreign policy universal models.
“Refusal to follow their instructions causes sanctions, heavy-handed political pressure, economic and other restrictions covering by routine words about human rights and democracy. We see this on the example of Belarus,” Bordyuzha said.
On January 31, 2011, the Council of the EU approved a list of Belarusian officials subject to a travel ban and assets freeze. The Council considers these persons to be involved in human rights violations in Belarus. The list was updated several times to hit more than 200 people. The EU sanctions were imposed on 32 Belarusian enterprises. The European Union provides this policy seeking the release and rehabilitation of Belarusian political prisoners.
