The 7th Berlin Biennale for contemporary art opened on April 26.

Social and political power of art and its ability to influence political processes became its main theme, “Nasha Niva” reports.

Polish artist Artur Żmijewski, known for his leftist views and scandalous works, has been appointed curator of the 2012 Biennale. He chose Russian Voina art-group as an associate curator.

An Open Call for Berlin Biennale was carried out for the first time this year. More than 7,500 artists sent their works. Belarusian artist Marina Naprushkina represents her Self-Governing project in collaboration with Nash Dom campaign. The Belarusian project already attracted public attention, also by a popular slogan SHOS literally meaning in Russian “Let him [Lukashenka] die”.

Belarusian music band NRM shows a clip for their song “Pramen” at the biennale. The idea of the clip shot by clip director Jacek Taszakowski belongs to famous Polish artist and sculptor Paweł Althamer.

The 7th Berlin Biennale runs until July 1.
