The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus considers a question of returning Belarusian ambassadors to the EU.

“What concerns Belarusian ambassadors, this issue is under consideration,” Belarusian MFA spokesman Andrei Savinykh said at a briefing in Minsk on Thursday, Interfax reports.

Speaking about the return of EU ambassadors to Minsk, he said the Belarusian MFA had already voiced its position. At the same time Savinykh noted “It's quite possible the MFA will make a statement on the matter later.”

According to him, the Belarusian MFA is not inclined to comment on the processes under discussion. “We do not comment on uncompleted questions at the stage of practical work,” Savinykh said.

Answering a question if the MFA sent invitations to foreign ambassadors to hear Alyaksandr Lukashenka's address to the “parliament” and people of Belarus scheduled for April 19, Savinykh said: “Invitations have been sent to all ambassadors in Minsk.”

He did not specify whether there are special procedures of returning heads of diplomatic missions recalled to their countries for consultations. Savinykh said “diplomatic relations are not traffic rules”. “They are based on international law and diplomatic traditions. Each particular case needs a specific solution,” Savinykh said.
