The authorities of Belarus pretend to be a fool trying to convince all around a dialogue is needed for the the West, not for the regime.
Politologist Ales Lahvinets comments to the website of For Freedom movement on Syarhei Martynau's statements on a possible return of EU ambassadors.
“It looks like Minsk has launched a special operation titled 'resuming talks about a dialogue with the West'. The pendulum is possibly swinging in the opposite direction already. The situation in the country is not improving despite the mercy demonstrated by the Kremlin, but new and old persons on the EU blacklist do not seem to be very happy,” Lahvients says.
At the same time he thinks “the regime cares so much about preserving its face in the eyes of society and officials”. That's why “we hear now the vain drumbeat showing the readiness to start a dialogue”, Ales Lahvinets says.
“These are Soviet stereotypes reflecting the lack of knowledge and unwillingness to know the way how the civilized world copes with it. The Belarusian authorities pretend to be a fool when they are trying to convince all around it is the West, not the regime, that needs a dialogue,” the politologist said.
