Members of For Freedom movement planned to mark the fifth anniversary of the organization at a recreation centre outside Minsk this weekend.
“Unexpectedly, we were told the recreation centre will be used for a children's party. We asked if we could postpone our event and hold it later, but we heard only mumbling,” For Freedom movement press service quotes deputy head of the organization Yury Hubarevich.
Hubarevich notes he does not know if it was an order of the authorities to disrupt the event or it was an initiative of the administration of the recreation centre who did not want to have possible problems. “In any case, we have another example of absurdity of people's conduct in the country with an atmosphere of fear.”
“The only political item on the agenda was an enlarged meeting of the council to analyze our five-year activity,” he said.
For Freedom movement was founded after the 2006 presidential “election”. The movement was headed by presidential candidate Alyaksandr Milinkevich. The organization managed to receive a registration certificate at the fourth attempt.
