Belarus expects “specific steps” from the West and official Minsk will not change its position on the “release of political prisoners”.
This statement was made on Tuesday by Alyaksandr Lukashenka as he heard out a report from MFA chief Syarhei Martynau.
“I hear more and more statements that European diplomats wait for an amnesty again raising a question of political prisoners and so on. I'd like to say in public: I will not return to this issue. I've already said it in public, also in the Address to the Belarusian People and the Parliament. I see no grounds now to change my position,” Lukashenka said.
“We expect specific steps from the West, the European Union. The ball is on their side. This is my strong conviction. Therefore I am not going to wait for old musical instruments to play old sheet music,” the dictator stressed.
