Aleh Vouchak taken into custody for 9 days

Detained human rights activist Aleh Vouchak was tried in the Tsentralny district court of Minsk.

He was accused of swearing, Radio Svabdoa learned from Dzmitry Kukhlei, a member of the Masty district council.

We remind human rights activist Aleh Vouchak was detained my plainclothes men near Bangalore Square in Minsk. He was taken to the Tsentralny district police department. Policemen did not give a ground for the detention.

Aleh Vouchak was in Afghanistan during the Soviet-Afghan war. He later worked in a prosecutor's office.

Having left the prosecution agency, he worked with high-profile cases relating to political prisoners and arrested law enforcement officers.

He actively helped Alyaksandr Kazulin and then Mikalai Autukhovich, who also served in Afghanistan.

Vouchak's activity provoked nervous reaction of pro-Lukashenka media. His organization “Legal Assistance to Citizens” lost registration in 2003. The case over liquidation of “Legal Assistance to Citizens” is under consideration by the UN Human Rights Committee.
