Only runaround replies to complaints of oppositionists received

Taisiya Kabanchuk, the regional leader of the created Belarusian Christian Democracy Party, has received a reply to her complaint to police.

We remind that on April 19 the unknown pasted libelous leaflets all over the shop she works in. The activist wrote an application to police with a request to find those guilty, Viasna human rights centre informs.

“In the answer signed by the chief of the police department Nr 2, Colonel Alyaksandr Syarheeu (he was appointed deputy chief of the police department of the city executive committee on May 15) it is said that they cannot help her in any shape or form,” Kabanchuk said. “It was written that the policemen held investigation, and decided to close the case, as it allegedly impossible to establish the identity of this hooligan. I was also “given encouragement”, that in case they find this person, he would be brought to responsibility…

Halina Smirnova, an activist of the United Civil Party and the leader of the branch of the independent trade union, has also written a complaint as her entrance hall was flooded by the same leaflets. And though she had written the complaint earlier than Taisiya Kabanchuk, she has not received an answer yet.

“The police probably have too many facts and evidence on my case, so that they cannot give me an answer up till now,” Halina Smirnova is laughing up her sleeve. “Last time I heard something a few weeks ago, when I was invited to the police department for giving clarification on the case. I was asked the same questions I answered in my complaint. They were interested whether I suspect the BCD activists, as there were their stickers there. But I invited Taisiya Kabanchuk with me, and when the investigator recognized her, these questions ecame unnecessary.

Halina Smirnova says that such an attitude to their case on the part of the police is insulting. The activists even contemplate an idea to file an application for holding a picket to the city executive committee.

“We are going to protest against the fact that our cases are not investigated, that everyone can offend us, and would not be punished for that. I even asked to the investigator jokingly to provide us with guards,” the activist from Babrujsk said indignantly.
