Vasily Parfyankou to stand trial tomorrow again

Tomorrow, on May 29 at 10 a.m. the criminal case of a former political prisoner Vasily Parfyankou goes for trial in the court of Pershamajski distrct of Minsk.

He is charged with violation of the requirements of preventive supervision (Article 421 of the Criminal Code), writes Viasna human rights centre.

The case is to be presided by Judge Syarhei Bandarenka, who on November 24 2011 sentenced the chairman of Viasna human rights centre Ales Byalyatski to 4.5 years in colony.

Persecution believes that Vasily Parfyankou trice violated the regime of preventive supervision. Once the former political prisoner was late for registration at the authority that carries out the supervision. Twice policemen visited him at his place when he was not there, he went shopping. Under Article 421 of the Criminal Code of Belarus, he can be punished by an imprisonment for up to 6 months, or deprivation of freedom for up to one year.

The preventive supervision started for Vasily Parfyankou on January 5, 2012 for one year. The Pershamajski district department of Investigations committee of Minsk informed about opening of the criminal case against the former political prisoner on April 19.

Viasna human rights centre demanded to stop the criminal persecution of Vasily Parfyankou.
