The Polish labour market is attracting more and more foreigners, according to a new report, particularly from Belarus, Ukraine and Russia.

The recruiting group HRC Group, says that In 2011, authorities received a quarter million applications for employment for foreign workers and issued 41 000 work permits for citizens outside the European Union.

Last year, Poland liberalized its policy of employing nationals from neighboring countries that do not belong to the EU, opening up the labour market to substantially more Ukrainians, Belarusians and Russians.

The main areas for employment for these workers are in the agriculture and construction sectors, often for low wages.

The agriculture sector employed 17 percent more foreigners last year than in 2010, according to the HRC report: the construction industry took in almost three times more than workers from the east than in 2010.
