Pashkevich taken into custody for 7 days

Mikhail Pashkevich, an activist of Tell the Truth civil campaign, stood trial in Svetlahorsk.

The opposition member was accused of “interference with police actions”. The judgement was pronounced by judge Iryna Aliseika, Viasna human rights centre informs. The trial was conducted in the absence of a lawyer from Minsk.

As charter97.org website reported yesterday, police of the Svetlahorsk district detained Tell the Truth campaign activists and journalists, who came to the village of Yakimava Slabada to watch a meeting of local dwellers who want to held a local referendum on construction of a pulp bleaching plant near the village.

All detainees except Mikhail Pashkevich were released in the evening. The opposition activist, whose arm was injured during the detention, was left in a police department in Svetlahorsk, where a police report was drawn up against him.
