No plans to cancel foreign currency sale on passport

  • 21.08.2012, 11:21

The National Bank of Belarus says this measure was introduced to control foreign currency flows.

We remind that individuals were obliged to show their passports to buy foreign cash last year, amid financial crisis and feverish demand for foreign currency.

No panic demand was noticed in the last few months, but the National Bank does not hurry to cancel the ruling. Bank's press service says the ruling has no expiration date, Euroradio reports.

“The demand for currency is not the only reason. We need to control currency flows. If you buy several thousands dollars every month, it's clear you spend them abroad to buy consumer goods,” the press service of the National Bank notes.

The National Bank does not consider the possibility of canceling last year's ruling.
