Minsk's Leninski district court denied a motion filed by politician Syarhei Vaznyak to reduce a suspended sentence.
We remind on May 20, 2011, Syarhei Vaznyak was given two-year suspended sentence by the Frunzenski district court of Minsk in connection with the so called case of December 19. The sentence came into force on July 22, 2011. The politician had served half of his sentence by July 22, 2012, zapraudu.info reports.
Syarhei Vaznyak is on the watchlist of the corrections department of Minsk's Leninski district. He does not have complaints regarding his conduct and has not been brought to administrative responsibility, has a good reputation at work, among neighbours and a district police officer.
Under the acting legislation, it may be a ground to reduce a sentence. However, these grounds were ignored by judge Maryna Zapasnik.
“The only serious restriction I have due to the suspended sentence is a ban to travel outside the country. But I can live without it. My family had a problem at the beginning of the year. My son had a head injury in a serious crash and he needs a long treatment course. I sent my wife and him to a good health centre abroad in June. It would be good to repeat the rehab course in autumn, as doctors advise, but my wife will not be given another holiday at work. Of course, I would like to accompany my son to a health centre after the end of the parliamentary campaign. It was the only motive that made me apply for a sentence reduction,” Syarhei Vaznyak says.
The politician will appeal against the court decision to the Minsk city court.
