The Central Election Commission (CEC) will not allow the candidates calling to boycott the “parliamentary elections” to appear on air of the Belarusian television.
Some parliamentary candidate misuse the right to carry out an election campaign, CEC secretary Mikalai Lazavik told BelTA news agency commenting on the cases, when pre-election speeches of some candidates contained calls to boycott the elections.
Recording pre-election speeches of candidates for seats in the “house of representatives” started at the end of last week. Lazavik states some constituency election commissions already reported that some candidates “substitute the election campaign with campaigning on absolutely other motives”.
“There are certain citizens who want use state's money to promote an anti-state campaign, to wreck the election campaign. It stands in conflict with the electoral legislation, which supposes the pre-election campaigning should be aimed at encouraging voters to take part in the elections, but to distract them from voting,” the CEC secretary stressed.
“If someone calls to boycotting, it perhaps does not violate the civil, administrative or criminal legislation. No sanctions will be applied to a candidate, but his speech will not be aired,” Lazavik explained.
