Siarhei Kavalenka has not been released even after writing a pardon.
He was visited in prison by the officers of the prosecutor’s office and demanded to admit guilt for "assault on a policeman". This is what the wife of the political prisoner, who received his letter with this information, told to "Radio Svaboda".
"Siarhei has refused. He continues to insist that it was the police that beat him up when he got off the Christmas tree after hanging a white-red-white flag on it. And the fact that a policemen supposedly suffered from his hand is a lie", - said Alena Kavalenka, the wife of the political prisoner.
In July, it was reported that a month earlier Siarhei Kavalenka signed a petition for clemency to Aliaxandar Lukashenka. According to the prisoner, it happened after multiple conversations with administration and pressure, which was expressed in faultfinding and punishments, including - in the punishment isolation cell.
"Siarhei only asked to pardon him in the petition, nothing more. Apparently, the text didn’t satisfy someone “at the top”, and this someone began to demand recognition of guilt. When Siarhei refused, he was again thrown into solitary confinement, "- says Alena Kavalenka.
Siarhei Kavalenka was sentenced to a year and one month in prison for violation of the rules of serving a sentence in the working colony. He was charged with this after hanging the national flag on a Christmas tree in Vitebsk in 2010.
The prisoner is being held in Mogilev prison.
