Mikalai Statkevich: Prison resembles battlefield

  • 10.09.2012, 12:58

“Such a moral clarity and such a clear understanding what should be done and what not happen rarely in life…”

Political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich wrote this in a letter of August 30, statkevich.org reports.

“I agree with Ales [political prisoner Ales Byalyatski] that it's not the worst time in our life. Of course, I want freedom, want to see you, my relatives and the sky without bars, to see grass, to touch a tree.

On the other hand, such a moral clarity and such a clear understanding what should be done and what not happen rarely in life. I would hardly be able to do more to defend human dignity outside prison than here, on this 'battlefield' of 10 square meters. It may sound too pretentious, but sometimes it looked like a real battlefield. At least, we had enough blood,” Mikalai Statkevich thinks.
