Observer detained in Minsk

Ales Marchanka was questioned in Minsk Central district’s police department.

Marchanka was detained as he was leaving his house. People in mufti pushed him into a car and took to the police station, BelaPAN reports.

Today at 12 p.m. Ales Marchanka, who at the time was observing the elections at the 367th polling station, received a call from a person introduced as a deputy chief of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Minsk Central district’s police department. He said that Marchanka had to come testify and undergo inquiry with an Investigation Committee official Valeri Mikhailavich Snatski at 14.30. Allegedly Marchanka is a witness on a criminal case of a bike robbery in Lesi Ukrainki street in Minsk.

Marchanka refused to show up without a subpoena and was detained as he left his house.

After being questioned and once a protocol was composed the observer was released.
